Khammam is an important district in the Telangana State, and it holds prominent heritage and history. There are numerous places in the district to visit and the fine importance of them suggests that they should not be missed out for any reason.
- Bhadrachalam Temple:
It is the most prominent place in Khammam, and it has deep roots into the several ages of history. This place is situated along the Godavari River, and at this place, Lord Sri Rama had crossed the river to find Sita Devi, when she was abducted by the Demon King, Raavana.
- Parnasala:
Situated at 30 Kms from Bhadrachalam, Parnasala is a very important place, as it had hosted several important events of the epic – Ramayana. When Lord Sri Rama was sent to exile, he along with his wife, Sita Devi and brother, Laxmana, had stayed here for a long period of time. The abduction of Sita Devi by Raavana had also taken place here, and there are statues all over the place depicting the events happened during the stay of Lord Sri Rama, and the abduction of Sita Devi. This place is a must visit for sure.
- Khammam Fort:
The Khammam fort is situated on the Stambhadri Hill and it is very famoius for the rich cultural heritage it displays. This fort was built by the Kakatiya rulers around 1000 years back and the structure depicts fine Hindu and Islamic cultures.
- Kinnerasani Dam and Wild Life Sanctuary:
The Kinnerasani dam and wildlife sanctuary are located in the Palvoncha Mandal, and they are renowned for the natural beauty including the vast greenery and huge wildlife featuring large numbers of deer and rare birds.
- Lakaram Lake:
The Lakaram Lake is renowned for the beautiful sceneries, and a good looking park is built adjacent to it. Also, boating facility is provided for the tourists and there is an open movie theatre in the park.
